Abstract

This article examines the role of transformative leadership in strengthening teacher professional development within Islamic educational institutions. Teachers are central to the success of educational reform, and their professional growth determines the overall quality of learning. In the context of Islamic education, leadership must not only address managerial and administrative functions but also embody ethical values, inspire innovation, and nurture holistic development. Using a qualitative library research method, this study synthesizes scholarly literature, policy frameworks, and case studies from diverse contexts. The findings show that transformative leadership encourages collaboration, reflection, and continuous learning among teachers, while integrating Islamic ethical principles such as justice (‘adl), compassion (rahmah), and responsibility (amanah). Moreover, transformative leaders foster teacher motivation, adapt professional development to global educational standards, and ensure relevance to local cultural and religious contexts. The study concludes that teacher professional development in Islamic education can be strengthened through visionary leadership that balances tradition with innovation, enhances pedagogical competencies, and prepares educators to contribute to institutional quality, student success, and societal progress.
